Citations

Why Cite?

  1. You are acknowledging the work of others. You are also aware of the scholar's work and the scholarship they conducted. You are also showing that you are aware of how other authors' research contributes to a discipline, as well as your own paper's research.
  2.  When you acknowledge the work of others, it shows that you respect their work and ideas as intellectual property.
  3. Citing credible and authoritative sources also lends support to the arguments you make in your written work.
  4. Your readers get the information they need to pursue the resources you cited in your bibliography or references page.
  5. There are many different citation styles for various disciplines, so always check with your professor to find out what style you are expected to use for your assignments.
