GRE Preparation

Getting Started

The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) can be a daunting undertaking.  This guide is here to help you prepare for the examination, gain familiarity with its format, and enable you to register to take the examination.

The GRE is a standardized test created by the ETS (Educational Testing Service) that is an admissions requirement for many graduate schools.

There’s not much fun about the GRE.

  • It’s difficult
  • It’s expensive
  • It’s time-consuming
  • It’s an obstacle many must overcome to achieve their goals

Good News!

The GRE is not a test of innate ability

The GRE is a test of one’s ability to:

  • Set goals and work toward them
  • Put off short-term rewards for long-term gains
  • Organize time strategically
  • Use metacognition (know what you know & don’t know)

These are all abilities required to succeed in graduate school!

These skills can be learned!
