From 1971

Mansfield graduate Helen Barrows, née Newlen, lived in North Hall her freshman year - 1971-1972. When she lived here the ghost was know as "the girl who died". The story goes that in the early 1900s, she jumped from the 7th floor practice room after her boyfriend broke up with her. There was no story of her falling accidentally that she remembers. Most interesting, was that she said that room of "the girl who died" was located on 2nd floor north, approximately where the study carrel near the wing entrance are located. The room was locked and no one lived there, but it still had all the furniture in the room and you could peek in the window of the room. One of Helen's friends lived across the hall from the room and claimed that strange things were always happening, including a clock falling off the shelf for no reason. This friend did not return to Mansfield the next year.
