North Hall Prize

About the North Hall Prize

Important note: The North Hall Prize is currently on hiatus. 

The purpose of the North Hall Prize is to recognize, honor and celebrate undergraduate research that uses North Hall Library resources and services.

Criteria:

The awards committee will consist of one library department faculty member and one faculty representative from each of the following areas: health and natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences. The Committee will use the following criteria for judging submissions:

  • Originality
  • Scholarship
  • Writing
  • Research skills
  • Faculty recommendation

Prizes and Recognition

  • $100.00 -- Paper of 5-9 pages (1250-2250 words)
  • $100.00 -- Paper of 10 or more pages (more than 2250 words)

The winning papers will be showcased on the library's repository and the winners will be listed on the North Hall Library Prize's web page in perpetuity. 

The prizes and certificates will be given to the winners at a public ceremony.

The winners and their winning papers will be showcased in the annual Showcase of Student Scholarship.

Eligibility

The competition is open to individually created papers of 5 or more pages written by a Mansfield undergraduate enrolled in one or both of the semesters during the eligibility period.

Papers submitted and graded during the calendar year (January–December) will be eligible for consideration. 

Submitted entries must have been completed for a credit course and received a letter grade of A- or better.

The submitted paper must be based on some library research that will include usage of library print and electronic resources. In-text citations and a bibliography must be included in the paper in the appropriate citation style.

The faculty member who grades the paper must be willing to sign the submission form with supporting comments.

If the student is still enrolled at the University at the time of their selection, they must attend the award ceremony in order to receive the prize money.
