The North Hall Library employs between 40 and 60 student assistants during the academic year. Students must have a work-study award as part of their financial aid packet in order to work in the library. There are numerous employment opportunities available in all areas of the library, both public and non-public, and during all hours that the library is open.
Student assistants are employed in most of the following library departments/positions: Circulation, Stacks Maintenance, Computer and IT support, Interlibrary Loan, Technical Services, Special Collections, and Administration.
Most students work an average of 6 hours per week and some areas require some nights and/or weekends.
Student work study in the library is very competitive and applicants are evaluated based upon the needs of a particular area, the compatibility of the applicant with those needs, the flexibility of the applicant's schedule, and their grade point average. The hiring process is usually completed within the first few weeks of the semester and previous library experience is not necessary.
Pre-Hire / Re-Hires:
Supervisors will work with their employees to determine eligibility and procedures for re-hiring the following school year.
