MAT 220: History of Mathematics

Books in the Library

 

Books tend to be on broader topics than articles, things like "Mathematics in Egypt" rather than "Approximation by Egyptian fractions and the weak greedy algorithm." Keep that in mind when searching for books.

Under "Tweak my results" you can select Full Text Online to limit to ebooks, or you can choose to limit to your local libraryUse the Library Catalog link above to search for print and online books at Commonwealth University libraries. You can limit to books at your local library or limit to ebooks, if that is your preference. If you find a book at another Commonwealth campus library, we will send it to you. Just place a request (info on that process below).

Now, what to search for. Here are some good search terms to get you started. Use them as is, or use them as models for search terms for your topic of interest.

Requesting Books from other CU Libraries

If there is a book available at another CU library, you can place a request in the library catalog, and it will be sent to your local library. Here's how that works.

If I am at Mansfield, and I want this book that is available in Lock Haven:

  1. When you find the item, click on Sign in.Click on Sign in
     
  2. If you aren't already signed into your university account, you will be prompted with the university's Single Sign-on screen. Login with your university account.
     
  3. Click on Request PickupClick on Request Pickup
     
  4. Select your Pickup Location and Send Request.
    Select your library and click on send request
     
  5. You will see this message when you have completed your request.

  6. When your item arrives, you will receive an email. You can then pick up the book at your library's circulation desk. Return it there when you are finished with it.

Getting Books We Don't Have

If there is a book that we don't have available at one of our libraries, we can still get it for you (excluding most textbooks you use in class).

If you know of a specific book you want, try EZBorrow. If it is not available there, fill out an ILLiad request .

If you are looking for books on a topic but don't know a specific title, try EZBorrow or WorldCat. If needed, you can fill out an ILLiad request.
