Food and Drink Policy

Commonwealth University Libraries:

Food & Drink Policy

Snack foods (candy bars, chips, muffins, etc.) and drinks covered with lids or caps are permitted in the CU Libraries except in the following areas, where food and drink are prohibited:

  • Archives, Archives Reading Rooms, and Archives Exhibit Areas in all CU Libraries
  • Computer Lab/Classroom (AL 243) in Andruss Library

Please use special caution when eating or drinking near computers, printers, and other vulnerable devices such as digital cameras and projectors.

The CU Libraries are not equipped to be dining facilities.  If you are on campus and need to eat a full breakfast, lunch, or dinner, please use the campus dining facilities.

The delivery of any kind of food to the library by outside vendors (for example, Domino’s Pizza) is not permitted.  Deliveries are disruptive and distracting to patrons who are trying to study.

Foods with very strong smells—like pizza and french fries—distract patrons who are trying to study and are therefore not allowed in the library.

University events catered by authorized food vendors are permitted in designated areas of the library.

All library patrons are expected to clean up after themselves to the fullest extent possible.  If the mess is serious, patrons are expected to report the mess to library staff so that they can relay the message to Facilities and arrange for a clean-up.  Food messes can attract bugs and other pests, some of which eat books and other library materials.
