In order to make a population pyramid in MS Excel, you must essentially make a stacked histogram (bar chart) with horizontal bars and a single y-axis.

If you choose to use this method in MS Excel to make your population pyramid, you will need to make one of the data sets (male or female) negative so that the negative values are positioned to the left of the y-axis. You will, however, need to format your data labels on the y-axis so that the intervals are not presented as negative values.
